Walk through the meadow paths surrounding Wiltshire exhibition centre this weekend

IF you have never visited the fabulous Rabley centre near Marlborough, this weekend would be a good time.

Silversmith Meryl Ainslie and painter Simone Dawood are exhibiting in the beautiful landscape and studios at Rabley Drawing Centre as part of Marlborough Open Studios.

Meryl Ainslie: “ I want to make something beautiful and precious out of the ordinary or overlooked and to give the owner an experience of the places that have inspired me.”

Meryl has three new series of art jewellery in recycled precious metal in the studio, one inspired by farm conservation projects on moths and their habitats. Plus there are sketchbooks and pieces in the making from her artist’s residency in Denmark and trip to Gujarat last year.

She combines forging and casting in her bespoke statement pieces that cross the boundaries of jewellery and fine art.

Simone will be showing new paintings and prints.

Her work reflects a close familiarity with the landscape and shifting light, informed by many miles of walking and revisiting favourite sites: Hill forts, tree clumps and the ubiquitous White Horse figures.

Weather permitting (and even if it’s raining) you are invited to walk through the meadow paths surrounding Rabley Barn.

Soak in the atmosphere of the place; soft curvy inclines, wild flowers, bird song and the quiet, contemplative peace which is at the heart of Simone’s inspiration. She will be hosting an informal talk and Q&A at noon on Saturday about her processes and practice, as well as showing some of the tools of her trade.

Studio 10 will be open between 11am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday @marlboroughopenstudios at The Rabley Drawing Centre, Rabley Barn, Marlborough SN8 2LW.
