Who are Newbury community festival headliners Unwashed Commoners?
While all attention might be focused on the Newbury Real Ale Festival, The Wash Common Community Festival is also taking place….. with Live Music from 1-5pm. The headliners at 4pm are The Unwashed Commoners, some of whom are also part of The Rectory Close Jammers that recently played on the Bandstand.
Simon Benson and Andy Sparkes formed the Unwashed Commoners originally in 2018 together with Simon's guitar teacher and local professional musician, Russ Timms and drummer Dave Jancey.
Practice sessions are held at Simon's Wash Common home in Dormer Close and the band enjoy entertaining local people with fun music, including cover songs by The Rolling Stones.
They have previously performed in West Berkshire at the Tally Ho Community pub near Hungerford, Ace Space unplugged, The Lock Stock and Barrel open mic sessions and Hungerford Rugby Club.
They are joined at The Wash Common Community Festival by local professional musicians, Adam Kotz and Lizzie Long and would welcome the crowd being involved and joining in with the singing.
Opening the show at Falkland Cricket Club at 1pm is Phoenix Brass, NUTS - Newbury Uke Town Strummers and The U Team from 2-3pm, Sing for Fun 3-4pm and The Unwashed Commoners on stage from 4pm.
