Wedding parasol purchased for Princess Diana estimated to fetch £18,000-£22,000 at Newbury auction
A wedding carriage parasol purchased for Lady Diana for her marriage to Prince Charles in 1981 is going under the hammer at Special Auction Services in Newbury on Wednesday, June 4, and is estimated to fetch £18,000-£22,000.
The parasol is one of two 19th-century examples bought by Elizabeth Emanuel, the designer of Lady Diana Spencer’s wedding dress, in case of rain on the wedding day.
It was finished in a slightly different shade of white to the other one to confuse the press as to the true colour of the dress and was therefore never used.
It has a folding gilt-brass stem embossed with a Royal Crown and marked ‘London’, a decoratively carved ivory handle, with white satin canopy and is being sold with a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel.
Expert at Special Auction Services Adam Inglut said: “This is such an historic item that although never used, will be highly sought after due to its provenance and because Princess Diana was loved throughout the world.”
The auction will also include other memorabilia relating to the British Royal Family including photographs signed by Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Royal medallions, Royal Yacht ephemera and Christmas Cards sent by Charles and Diana with estimates from £50.
