Mr Burton, film at Croft Hall, Hungerford, 7.30pm. An evocative and thoughtfully crafted origin story, Mr Burton traces the formative relationship between Welsh schoolteacher Philip Burton (a commanding Toby Jones) and a raw talent teenager, Richie Jenkins (Harry Lawtey), destined to become the legendary actor Richard Burton. – Tickets £8

SATURDAY

and Sunday; Mary’s Church Speen RG14 1SA will be open for Heritage Weekend on Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 11:30am-4pm. Items of interest will include Old Speen in photos, Guided Tours of the Bell Tower, Treasure Hunts and more, plus the the offer of a complimentary Cream Tea from 2pm-4pm on both days subject to availability. Visitors will be very welcome.

Cold Ash Gardening Club Summer Show, Acland Hall, Cold Ash. Classes: flowers, vegetables, fruit, homecraft and photography, plus classes for children. Judging starts 10.30am. Hall open to the public from 2pm for viewing. To take part, entry forms available at the Post Office, or by emailing showsecretary@cahs.org.uk

SUNDAY

Hungerford Heritage Festival, Croft Field RG17 0HY, 10am-3pm. Ferret racing, Morris Dancing, have a go at traditional crafts, stalls, street food, live music. Free entry.

Caroline and Cindy’s bingo night, at the The Club Bar and Lounge, 5 Cheap Street, Newbury, next to the train station. Raising money for local charities. Free entry, doors open 6.30pm and eyes down around 7.30pm. All cash prizes and a raffle. Everyone welcome – £12 book of six games, £1 big money flyer, £1 looney special, £1 raffle strip. Newbury Week of Prayer (Monday-Saturday) Churches in Newbury are joining together in an opportunity for anyone to explore prayer and connect with God. Throughout the week there are many opportunities to explore prayer: on your own, with others, in church buildings, outside, even on zoom! Every day through the week different churches across Newbury are opening their doors for prayer, silently or with others. There are themed prayer meetings, physical prayer meetings, moments of silence and reflection and times of worship with others. starts on Sunday 14th Sept 6pm at St Nics Church Newbury. Newbury District Field Club talk: Newbury and Thatcham Historical Comparison. Dr Nick Young presents his entertaining and informative comparison of the development of the two towns. The next Newbury Neighbourhood Watch/West Berkshire Neighbourhood Watch
Meeting is being held on Wednesday 17 September 2025 starting at 7.15 pm in
Kersey Hall at the Waterside Centre, Waldegrave Place, Northbrook Street,
Newbury RG14 1DS and we shall be having talks from Jessica Ryall-Spoor of
Trading Standards on Scams and No Cold Calling Zones and Lucinda Brown of
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Due to other commitments on that
day, it is possible that we may not have a Police representative at this
meeting. There is no parking available at the Waterside Centre but several car parks
close by. Anyone is welcome to attend this meeting. There will be crime prevention literature available. If you wish to set
up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in your road, please contact Angela Money
