A selection of things to do around the area from Newbury to Thatcham, to Padworth and Woolton Hill.

Saturday 28

Fun on the Field, Thatcham Memorial Field, Brownsfield Road, Thatcham 10am-4pm. Children’s funfair rides, market stalls, classic cars.

Thatcham Bowling Club open day, behind Thatcham Memorial Hall, 10am. Try out the game for people of all ages. Bring a flat pair of shoes. The club will provide the rest.

Woolton Hill Village Market, St Thomas’ Church Hall, 10.30am-1pm. Local produce and arts and crafts. Royal treasure hunt, children’s prizes, create the queenliest crown.

Jumble sale, Padworth Village Hall, 2pm. In aid of St John the Baptist Church, Padworth.

Sunday 29

French-style brocante market, Great Lawn, Shaw House, 10am-4pm. Antiques, vintage, retro, bric-a-brac and decorative arts items plus vinyl records. Free entry to explore the house. Street food outside plus light refreshments from the café. Pre-prepared picnics available to order from https://buff.ly/39CVEds. No need to book. Free entry.

Plant and table-top sale, Shaw-cum-Donnington Gardening Club at the Village Hall, 2pm-4pm. Cash only, all welcome.

Newbury Bowls Club Open Day, Victoria Park, Newbury, 11am-3pm. In conjunction with Bowls England to promote the Big Bowls Weekend event. Free tuition and equipment with follow up taster sessions. All welcome. Refreshments available. Tel: (01635) 40293. www.newburybowls.wixsite.com

Blue Sky Big Band,Victoria Park bandstand, 3pm-5pm. An opportunity to sit in the park, soak up the sunshine and listen to some good music. All the free band events are organised by Newbury Town Council.

Tuesday 31

To Sunday, June 5, Shaw House Illuminated, 9.30pm. In honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Shaw House will be illuminated in red, white and blue. On Tuesday and Wednesday the house will be open and refreshments available from the café, 9pm to 10.30pm. Thursday to Sunday, visitors will be able to enjoy the spectacle from the gates, but the house and grounds will be closed. On these evenings parking will be available in the car park opposite St Mary’s Church. Free event and no need to book.
