1949 Bedford Bus travelling from Newbury to Brightwalton, cello concert for Wallace & Gromit's children's charity and Climate Change workshop: A guide to what's on this Saturday, September 25




A round-up of events taking place today (Saturday) across West Berkshire and North Hampshire.

  • Bedford bus retraces Reliance Motor Services route, from Newbury Bus Station, 12.15pm. Traces the route to Brightwalton. The little cream and brown bus leaving Newbury’s bus station at 12.15pm on Saturday, September 25, will be the Reliance service across the Berkshire Downs to Brightwalton, calling at Donnington, Winterbourne, North Heath, Leckhampstead and Chaddleworth.

  • Giant Book and Jigsaw Sale, Shalbourne Village Hall, 10am-4pm. Free entry. Hundreds of books and jigsaws for sale.
  • Basildon Village Market, Upper Basildon Village Hall, 10am-12.30pm. Stalls and café.
  • Litter pick, Old Bluecoat School, Thatcham, near the skate park, 10am-11am. Come and help clear up.

  • Green Church Open Day, St Nic’s, Newbury, 10.15am-4pm. Includes local stands and businesses with an eco theme, talks and activities for all ages. Talks include sustainable living, the environmental crisis, climate change and the myths and challenges of waste and recycling.
  • Cole’s Charity Cello Performance, Bowler’s Arms, Newbury, 4pm. Cole Bowers, 14, is fundraising for Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Charity to help children in hospitals across the UK. This is his sixth concert and he has raised £2,500 to date.
  • Climate Change Workshop, St John’s Church and hall, 2pm. Newbury Town Council’s fourth Climate Change Workshop with guest speaker Dr Mike Morecroft, principal specialist in climate change at Natural England and an IPCC lead author. Everyone is welcome and no booking is required.
  • Summer Fair, St Michael’s School, Burghclere, 12noon-4pm. Fun and games, barbecue and refreshments. Cake competition.
  • And Sunday, West Berks Indoor Bowls, Pyle Hill, Newbury, 10am-2pm. Free taster sessions for all ages. www.wbibc.co.uk
