Whitewall's Akiyama show a fusion of Eastern and Western artistry
Award-winning Canadian contemporary artist Danielle O’Connor Akiyama is launching her new solo exhibition at Whitewall Galleries, Parkway Shopping, today (Saturday) from 11am to 1pm.
Danielle is touring the UK this month to unveil her new solo show Odyssey at a series of VIP events before it opens in galleries across the country.
Odyssey “celebrates the timeless journey towards experience and enlightenment” in a series of new original paintings.
Alongside this exhibition, Akiyama will release an exclusive limited edition triptych, The Golden Reach, part of her celebrated Journey series.
Akiyama’s style is loose and impressionistic. During her training, she studied Japanese brush painting – sumi-e – and was awarded the prestigious Master’s Seal for outstanding
work. Her distinctive fusion of eastern and western artistry has led to her paintings being highly-prized by art collectors from both sides of the Pacific.
This exhibition represents an intellectual and spiritual quest for the artist and her invitation to join her in the gallery includes a personal message to her collectors: “... discover unexpected possibilities on the road ahead ... a renewed sense of our own world. Honour your Odyssey.”
Whitewall Galleries has represented Akiyama in the UK for more than a decade. During this time, there has been a steady rise in demand for her work and a corresponding increase in value.
Whitewall Galleries CEO Helen Swaby believes the new exhibition represents some of the artist’s finest work to date, saying: “This important exhibition represents one of the largest and most diverse collections of Danielle’s paintings ever to be shown in this country.
“It offers collectors a unique opportunity to acquire new works at a time when she is in huge demand.”
