Works by prolific Newbury painter Christopher Hall for sale in support of the Corn Exchange Old Library Campaign

Works by Christopher Hall RBA, RCA (1930 – 2016) are for sale in aid of the Corn Exchange Old Library Campaign.

If you have recently visited the Corn Exchange Newbury, you may have noticed some of Christopher Hall’s beautiful paintings adorning the wall towards the auditorium doors.

The late Newbury painter’s artistic journey was deeply rooted in his love for the countryside, architecture, and people.

Born and raised in Inkpen and Enborne, his childhood was filled with an appreciation for the rural landscape, hobbies such as stamp collecting and cricket, and a talent for drawing and painting.

This passion led him to study painting at the prestigious Slade School of Art in London, setting the foundation for an exceptional career as an artist.

Throughout his long and prolific career, Christopher produced more than 3,800 oil paintings, capturing both rural and urban landscapes with a distinctive eye for architecture and human connection.

His works, rich in a sense of place, reflect his extensive travels - from the rolling hills of Wales to the sunlit streets of Italy and France - and his hometown of Newbury and its surrounding areas. He exhibited widely across England and Wales, with regular selections for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions, and remained actively painting into his final years.

This exhibition, made possible through the generosity of the Hall family, showcases six of Christopher's remarkable paintings, including a couple of the local area.

The works on display are available for purchase, with 30 per cent of the proceeds generously donated to the Old Library Campaign, which will see this historic Newbury building transformed into a vibrant arts hub for the community.
