Performing arts showcase for young people will be a great opportunity to raise money for The Mary Hare Foundation

YOUNG performers have the fantastic chance to Ignite The Stage again at Arlington Arts on Tuesday, March 11.

This showcase for schools and clubs in West Berks demonstrates the high standard of local musical, theatre and dance talent on our doorstep.

All proceeds go to the Mary Hare Foundation – last year £2,000 was raised.

The performance takes place within a professional theatre setting, which is a first for many of the pupils.

Participating schools and groups include Kennet, St Bart’s, The Downs, Mary Hare, St Finian’s Primary, Cold Ash St Mark’s, Allenova School of Dancing, Maia Hendrickx Vocal Studios, Elibah School of Dance and Nicola Moran Academy of Drama.

Voice coach and singer Maia Hendrickx, whose students also performed last year, said: “Ignite The Stage is a fantastic event, organised by The Nicola Moran Academy of Drama.

“The showcase is unique in that it not only encourages local schools to take part, but it also welcomes young performers who enjoy their dance, drama and singing pursuits outside of school, with independent coaches, like me!

“The result is a wonderful cross-section of local young performing artists all on one stage.

“The event is not only a celebration of these young people, but also a great opportunity to raise money for The Mary Hare Foundation.

“This fundraising is so important as Mary Hare School is wholly dependent on these efforts to enable them to develop and maintain their facilities and continue to provide excellent provisions to their deaf school community.

“I hope the event sells out – it’s not every night you can be thoroughly entertained and support such a good cause at the same time.”

The event was a roaring success last year, with very high standards – several pupils were about to embark on musical theatre training.

One of the guests, Thatcham mayor Mark Lillycrop, suggested that the audience were most likely watching future stars of stage and screen that very evening.
