Luke Jerram’s 7-metre artwork Helios to be displayed outside in a glade in the Pleasure Grounds of Basildon Park, until Sunday and again from 22-25 August. The sculpture combines audio and visual artistry, including the sound of the sun captured by NASA. Programme of activities includes skygazing through solar scopes, trying on space suits, Indian classical dance to the sun god Lord Shiva, yoga and BBQ on the front lawn. SATURDAY

East Woodhay Flower Show and Fete, East Woodhay Village Hall RG20 0AP, 2pm. A traditional village show - join us for a fun afternoon. flower and produce exhibition classes, barbecue, fete games, stalls, teas, East Woodhay Silver Band and much more. www.eastwoodhayflowershow.co.uk or telephone Diana 01635 278435 for more information.

SUNDAY

Caroline and Cindy’’s bingo, new venue at the The Club Bar and Lounge, 5 Cheap Street, Newbury, next to the train station. Raising money for local charities. Free entry, doors open 6.30pm and eyes down around 7.30pm. All cash prizes and a raffle. Everyone welcome – £12 book of six games, £1 big money flyer, £1 looney special, £1 raffle strip. MONDAY

Newbury and District Transport Group meeting at Kennet School Thatcham, 7pm to 9pm. Terry and Justin Foulger from Basingstoke. Terry will be showing a collection of his old railway pictures from the 1970s to the late 1980s in the first half and Justin will be showing some of his railway adventures from 2023 in the second half. Refreshments and raffle. Free admission.

WEDNESDAY

Summer Afternoon Teas at St Mary’s Church, Aldworth, every Wednesday in August and September, 2.30pm-4.30pm. Delicious homemade cakes in the company of The Aldworth Giants. For further details and to book groups contact: Gill Wilding (01635) 578624 or gillwilding@hotmail.com

St Mary’s Church, Speen, RG14 1SA is open every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm until the end of September. You are welcome to explore or enjoy a moment of peace.
