1,000 miles in just nine days

William Cryer (pictured) and Rob Dentry covered a distance of more than 1,000 miles in just nine days, enduring some of the worst spring weather for years, even totalling 130 miles in one day through gales and lashing rain.
Mr Cryer was cycling in memory of his sister Alice Walker, who lost her battle with cancer on July 12, 2010, aged 35.
Ms Walker, who was also a former pupil at the college, designed the 2000 millenium mug given to every schoolchild in Hungerford to commemorate the occasion.
Mr Cryer said: “I chose to raise money for Newbury Cancer Care Trust, who offered so much support when it was needed the most and who deserve far more than I could hope to raise in return.
“Having experienced the service and support they offer first hand, I can assure you that every penny donated is a penny well spent.”
Mr Cryer was accompanied by Mr Dentry, Police Community Support Officer in Swindon, who was raising money for children with Down’s Syndrome.
Despite the appalling weather the duo completed the trek in just nine days.
To date Mr Cryer has already raised £1,645 from his ride - far exceeding his initial, £1,000 target.
He said: “I’d like to thank everyone who gave so generously in memory of my sister.”
