10-day disruption to trains

Network Rail said that although the work - part of the £895 million upgrade to Reading station - would cause major disruption, it would avoid 20 weekends worth of work later in the year.
Over the Easter weekend there will be no trains from Reading to Paddington, running instead to Waterloo, adding approximately one hour and 20 minutes to journeys.
From April 2 to April 6, no Paddington trains will be travelling directly to Newbury and passengers will have to change at Reading to catch a Newbury service.
During this period First Great Western will run a reduced service to and from Reading, with services between London, Reading and the West of England not calling at intermediate stations between Reading and Westbury with a train shuttle service operating instead.
On Sunday, April 7, a revised service will run to Theale where a bus service will take passengers to Slough for connecting services to Paddington, while another bus service will travel to Reading.
Network Rail programme director, Bill Henry, said: "We realise it will be an inconvenience to passengers to plan alternative routes while we undertake the most ambitious part of this massive project to date.
"If there was any other way that we could deliver the improvements we would do it. But passengers should understand that during the 10 days of disruption we plan to achieve as much as we could in 20 weekends of work."
First Great Western managing director, Mark Hopwood, said: "Many journeys will be affected and I'd encourage anyone travelling through Reading and surrounding stations during this period to check their journeys before they travel."
Details of journey alterations can be found by asking at your local station or online at www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk.
