100,000 food parcels produced in Newbury
The technology company teamed up with international charity Stop Hunger Now to create thousands of food packages, which will be shipped to Burkina Faso in Africa this Christmas.
Hewlett Packard took up residency at The Racecourse Newbury last Tuesday, with a human production line of 35 lines with ten people in each line being formed.
Meanwhile the packages were made up of soy flour, lentils, rice and vitamin supplements.
Talking about the event, which was Stop Hunger Now’s first in the UK, director at Hewlett Packard, James Greenham said: “We are proud to be working alongside Stop Hunger Now to be part of its inaugural mission from the UK.
“The containers which will be filled with the packages will be shipped over Christmas and each has a tracker so we can see exactly where the food has been delivered, whether it is to an orphanage or school.
“As well as providing food, the food packages can help break the cycle of poverty. Children are more likely to attend a school where a meal is provided each day, meaning these packages give them not only a meal, but a chance for an education.”
Business development manager at the racecourse, Amanda Ellis added: “This was a fantastic event to see come together and it is a really innovative use of the racecourse’s facilities.
“The Hewlett Packard team were able to come into the Grandstand using the external steps from the car park onto the first floor so had no idea what awaited them in the afternoon downstairs.”
