15km diversion as A4 in Newbury is shut for resurfacing during the day this week
The A4 through part of Newbury is shut throughout this week – with a more than 15km diversion route signed to get motorists around the closure.
The Bath Road in Speen is currently closed from 9.30am until 3.30pm each day until Friday (June 17).
The closure is in place from Brummel Road, just before the Shell garage, down to the A34/A4 East roundabout.
There have been problems on the surrounding country lanes this morning (Monday) as cars and vans divert along the single track roads.
From Newbury, the signed diversion takes vehicles north on the A34 before coming off at Chieveley and heading back south along the A34, coming off at the Hungerford/B4009 exit. The same applies in reverse.
The diversion is a 15.7km route and will take around 15 minutes in normal traffic conditions.
The closure is in place to allow VolkerHighways to carry out resurfacing work on behalf of West Berkshire Council.
