£2.2m worth of improvements to the A34 begin

A three-mile section of both carriageways between Chieveley and Beedon will be resurfaced.
The work will be carried out between 10pm and 6am, Monday to Friday, and will involve some closures of the northbound carriageway, with southbound traffic being escorted in convoys past the work site.
The scheme was due to start on the northbound carriageway last night and is expected to be complete by February 9.
The work on the northbound carriageway is due to last ten days, with the A34 closed from Chieveley (M4 Junction 13) to the north of the Beedon junction.
Work on the southbound carriageway will then start on January 21 and will last for approximately twelve nights.
During the work on the southbound carriageway, one lane will be closed with traffic escorted past the work site in convoy.
There will also be a temporary 40mph limit on the approach to site and a 10mph limit past the actual site.
For more information on the work, read this Thursday’s Newbury Weekly News.
