24 hour licensing agreed for McDonald's
This is in addition to the drive-thru, which already holds a license to operate through the night at the Newbury retail park.
The increased opening hours have been given the thumbs up despite fears from local residents that it will increase traffic and anti-social behaviour, and add to claims of litter problems in the area.
Greenham Parish Council is appealing the decision and is seeking a review after clerk to the council, John Boston, discovered it’s recommendations, which expressed similar concerns, were not presented to the licensing committee on August 20.
Several conditions were put in place when granting the new licensing agreement, stipulating that a minimum of two CCTV cameras would operate during the hours of late night refreshment and notices requesting consideration for noise levels will be displayed for the prevention of public nuisance.
A spokesman for McDonald’s, Peter Hess, said although permission has been granted to operate round-the-clock, the opening hours were yet to be confirmed, although he added it was likely to become a 24 hour restaurant.
He added that a minimum of three litter picks a day would be conducted within a 100 metre radius of the restaurant, which recently underwent a £750,000 refurbishment.
