3-year self-build inspires book

A local author recently published her first book telling the story of her three-year
journey with her husband in building their own Aldworth home.
Mandy Clark took on the role of site manager for the duration of the build and kept a diary throughout the process which ultimately formed the
inspiration for her book Mud & Marriage – A Housebuilding Adventure which was released October 1.
Mrs Clark, who launched her book last Friday at St Mary’s Church, described it as a “useful guide for anyone thinking of embarking on a self-build,” as well as a “frank and often humorous insight” into the couple’s lives as they built a house and life together.
Speaking of the process of writing she said: “Writing it was a real joy. I got quite obsessed with it and now I have discovered the joy of writing.”
She said that the most difficult part was going over what she had written and the final editing process.
She now plans to write more and intends on penning a work of fiction next. “Now I have started writing I can’t stop,” she said.
Mrs Clark wrote the work of prose on and off over a period of nine months and said that she was most comfortable writing while in the bath.
“Inspiration comes at odd moments,” she said. “I always carry a notepad around with me. That is what I would advise to anyone writing.”
