33rd Kennet Games celebrates inclusion for all
On Saturday, the 33rd annual Kennet Games for children and young people with physical difficulties took place at Kennet School in Stoney Lane, Thatcham,
The competitors came from schools in West Berkshire and beyond including Kennet, Brookfields School in Tilehurst, Charters School in Sunningdale, All Saints School in Wokingham and Speenhamland School in Newbury.
Also taking part was a team from PALs Club - a West Berkshire charity which organises leisure activities for people in the area.
Events during the day included boccia, table skittles and skittles, wall/floor darts and beanbag throwing.
In the afternoon there was a raffle and the trophies were presented to the winners by Kennet's deputy head teacher, Peter Jenkins.
The cup winners were:
o The Senior Electric Wheelchair race - Joshua Ison from Kennet School.
o The Junior Wheelchair - Owen Kew from PALs
o Senior Manual Wheelchair competitor – Lizzie Sawyer from Kennet School
o Junior Manual Wheelchair competitor - Nicholas Peacock from All Saints’ School
o Best Senior standing competitor for outstanding effort - Katie Lovell from Brookfields School
o Best Junior standing competitor for outstanding effort – Thomas Sunderland from Speenhamland School
o Competitor with the fastest time in the wheelchair slalom - Michaela Bell from Kennet School
o Senior Boccia – first place went to Kennet A team and second place went to Charters school B team
o Junior Boccia – first place went to All Saints School and second place went to Speenhamland School
Kennet Games Organiser, Judy Wilson, said: “Competitors, parents, friends, carers and school staff all helped make the event a very successful day.
“The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all.”
