Weather warning issued for thunderstorms across West Berkshire for 36 hours
A yellow weather warning has been issued for West Berkshire for 36 hours from tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon, writes Joshua Barnes.
A warning is in place from noon until midnight tomorrow, with the Met Office warning of the possibility of isolated flooding from storms. Then from 1am on Thursday a larger warning comes into place for 23 hours, with “multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms” expected.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to lead to disruptions throughout the day on Thursday as those travelling are warned about public transport cancellations and road closures.
In addition, fast flowing water may pose a threat to human life and power cuts to many services and homes are also forecast, said the Met Office.
Rain limits visibility for the driver of a vehicle and, according to the Met office’s data, nine out of 10 weather-related injuries and deaths on the roads occur in heavy rain.
The Met Office is advising the public to travel with caution and to prepare for power cuts accordingly.
Around 25mm to 40mm of rain may accumulate within one hour during the early part of Thursday, with frequent lightning accompanying the rain at times.
Heavy rain is also likely throughout the latter stages of Thursday.
