40th anniversary of Ugandan Asian refugeee camp

One of those refugees who witnessed then dictator Idi Amin’s brutal regime first hand has organised an exhibition in Greenham to mark the 40th anniversary of the camp.
Greenham parish councillor Pragna Hay was only five-years-old when her family was forced to leave their home in Jinja, southern Uganda, for Greenham.
To mark the 40th anniversary of the camp Mrs Hay has organised a commemorative exhibition called ‘Flight to Greenham’, which will be held at New Greenham Arts from December 5.
The 46-year-old is encouraging local residents and schools to get involved in the event, which will include stories, photos and items from the refugees, as well as art work inspired by the camp.
If you would like to find out more about the exhibition or to get involved, contact Mrs Hay at ugandanasians@btinternet.com or via her Facebook group ‘Ugandan Asians’.
The councillor would also like to hear from anyone living in Newbury during 1972-1973.
