Big support for new care home in Calcot

Planning permission for a 50-bed care home on the former Pincents Manor Hotel site in Calcot has been granted.

More than a dozen people wrote to the council to support the plans.

The old hotel will be demolished to make way for the new centre, with conversion of the listed building into a ‘health hub’ for the extra care community.

It will also have a range of communal facilities such as bistro, tea lounge, multi-activity space, consultation room and treatment room.

The application, approved this week by West Berkshire Council, says it will provide an economic boost to the local economy with an estimated 200 jobs created in construction and ongoing operational collaboration with local businesses.

It says the centre will include “suitable and fully adaptable homes for the elderly so they are able to ‘age in place’, reducing the burden on local health and social care services”.

The development site is positioned off Pincents Lane which runs from the north accessed by City Road and to the south accessed by Bath Road.
