£500 boost funds more days out for brain tumour support group

Mike Willis, of The Berkshire Masonic Charity, St Bartholomew Lodge, recently presented a £500 cheque to Louise Maslin-Fink, of The Brain Tumour Support Group in Newbury.
The group was started by Ms Maslin-Fink five years ago, to provide support and advice to those living with brain tumours and cancer.
Diagnosed with incurable brain and spinal tumours in 2006, Ms Maslin-Fink, whose treatment had a profound effect on her and changed the way she looked at life, said that she tried to base the group around love and laughter.
The donation will help pay for the group’s regular outings, such as shopping days, and trips to museums and zoos.
The cash was part of some £60,000 donated each year by The Berkshire Masonic Charity to local charities and causes – while the Grand Masonic Charity donated £100,000 to Priors Court School, Hermitage, towards new facilities for autistic pupils.
“Freemasons do not raise money from the general public, the charity is funded by Freemasons and their families,” said Mr Willis, adding that freemasonry in Berkshire was thriving, with more than 90 lodges meeting in 13 different locations, and some 3,000 members, from all walks of life.
