65 events jam-packed into fortnight of Thatcham festival fun





The festival, which is now in its 12th year, will be opened by Thatcham mayor Mike Cole on Saturday, kicking off 65 activities over 14 days. The official opening will take place on Broadway Green, where a combined leisure and craft fair will also be held, with further stalls and activities in the parish hall, St Mary’s Church, and Priory Gardens.
Also on Saturday, Henley’s Allotments is holding an open day, the Thatcham classic car show takes place at Dunstan Green, there is an art exhibition at the Old Bluecoat School, and a stamp fair at the Memorial Hall.
The day finishes with a talk by local historian Nick Young entitled The Complete History of Thatcham.
On Sunday, people can head to the Thatcham Festival Food Fair at the Frank Hutchings Community Hall, from 10am until 3pm, to sample and buy a wide range of hot and cold produce from local providers, or join Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust for a six-mile walk from Greenham Common.
Highlights during the first week include storytime and activities for under-fives at Thatcham library on Monday, a concert by Beenham Wind Orchestra concert at the Old Bluecoat School on Tuesday, Trinity Rocks concert on Wednesday evening, Watership Cantabile concert on Thursday, and on Friday evening there is a choice of a quiz, film night or moth event, at the Nature Discovery Centre.
