70 ploughmen to take part in this weekend's annual match
Ploughs will be at the ready at Trumpletts Farm, Hampstead Norreys, on Saturday as more than 70 ploughmen from across Berkshire battle it out for a place in the national championships.
Visitors can watch classes in traditional horse-drawn, steam and reversible ploughs to the latest state-of-the-art agricultural machinery, which can turn over five acres in an hour.
But the event contains much more than ploughing, with local schoolchildren competing to stuff one another in the scarecrow competition.
The society also runs highly competitive homemade fruitcake cake, chutney and sloe gin competitions, all of which can be entered at 9.30am on the day.
All items are auctioned off to raise funds for the Newbury and District Cancer Care Trust and there will also be refreshment in the form of a hog and turkey roast.
The event will be churning over between 9am to 1pm.
Admission is £5 for adults and children under 16 get in for free.
