Dog of the Week: The latest dogs looking for their forever homes from Newbury Dogs Trust

Welcome to this week’s Dog of the Week.

We’ve had a little break recently from our regular column while Dogs Trust undergoes some transformations and Newbury moves to become a dedicated fostering centre.

Today we have charming chap Max, who is searching for a forever companion.

Max is an eight-year-old Mastiff crossbreed who arrived at Dogs Trust from a multiple-dog household.

Some of the dogs he was with were found to have foreign microchips, so Max was placed under strict quarantine while the charity carried out the necessary health checks to ensure none of the dogs were carrying any diseases that are non-endemic to the UK.

Due to this it has taken the charity a little longer to assess Max and they are still getting to know his personality and needs.

“Max is a bit shy when it comes to making new friends, but give him a little time and he’ll quickly warm up to you,” those currently looking after him said.

“And once you’ve gained his trust, Max truly shines; he adores the company and all the fuss you can give.

“New environments can make him feel a bit uneasy, and he’s not too fond of close handling.

“Max has a healthy appetite and loves his meals. He has also found a love for toys and especially likes to play with his squeaky broccoli!”

Max ideally needs a new home without any other pets to allow this charming chap to soak up all the attention in a peaceful setting.

Any new owners will need to understand his background and offer reassurance during those moments when he might feel a little anxious.

“A calm and supportive environment will help Max thrive and feel secure,” the Trust added.

“With patience and love, Max will undoubtedly become your best friend.”
