A close shave for former landlord
Former landlord among those losing his locks at the Carpenter's Arms in Burghclere to raise funds for charities
A BURGHCLERE landlady was wielding the razor at a charity fund-raising ‘shave-in' on Saturday night - while wearing shorts and a bikini top for a dare.
Landlady of the Carpenter's Arms, Christine Chipperfield gamely donned the outfit after villager, Andrew Johnson, said he would have his beard shaved off - providing she was “semi-naked.”
Former landlord, Lee Hunt, of Boxford, (pictured above with Christine Chipperfield) who ran the pub about ten years ago, is now sporting a bald look, after a complete headshave, while Roger Butler, owner of Curridge Motors, was parted from the flowing locks he has had 'for ever' according to Mrs Chipperfield.
Around 200 people in the packed pub were also entertained by live music by Kevin Bull, from Reading.
The evening raised over £1,500, in sponsorship and also from a collection on the night, to be divided between local charity Swings and Smiles and national charity, Help for Heroes, with more charity fundraisers planned at the pub later this year.
