Can you help solve the missile-shaped mystery at Greenham Common Control Tower?
Residents are being asked to help solve a mystery at Greenham Control Tower.
Volunteers working up at the site on the former RAF Greenham Common are looking for help in identifying a large bomb-shaped object that has been moved into its grounds.
The object, which is around 10 feet in length and weighs several tonnes, had been covered in brambles for many years, but has recently been uncovered and moved near to the visitors centre.
Control Tower Ambassador, Jeremy Willis, said it had been established that it was not a bomb or missile, but its exact use remains a mystery.
“We know that it is not a bomb, or missile of any nature but has been described in the past as possibly being an aircraft wing fuel tank or an ex naval paravane used to tow behind a marine vessel in mine hunting,” Mr Willis said.
Anyone who may be able to help shed some light on the object, or have any knowledge of it, is asked to email the control tower at info@greenhamtower.org.uk
“Any help would be appreciated,” added Mr Willis.
