Newbury Scout group welcomes second new section for youngsters

A Newbury Scout group has opened a second section for young children after becoming the fastest growing group in the Kennet District.

The 1st Newbury Scout group, joined by District Commissioner Conor O’Neill, opened a second cub pack called Kimber Cubs last week, with 21 children and four adult volunteers making their Scouting promise for the first time.

Yvonne Soulby, group Scout leader for 1st Newbury Scout group, said: “I am overwhelmed and very grateful for all the support from parents and fellow leaders to make this possible.

“We're lucky to have such a strong and supportive team of volunteers in the Scout group already to help them get started.”

The expansion to a second group came after the successful opening of the Kimber Beaver colony last Easter and due to overwhelming demand for children to get involved in the Scouts.

In 2022 the group doubled in size with 70 new additions joining up throughout the year, all keen to be involved with the fun, challenge and adventure of Scouting.
