A right royal fair

Despite the overcast bank holiday weather, hundreds of people attended the event, held at the green opposite the Blade Bone Inn.
The crowds flocked to watch the sheep racing with local television and radio personality Chris Tarrant hosting Chris’s Chapel Row Cup Challenge.
There were also displays from the Thames Valley Police dog unit, ferret races and birds of prey swooped overhead in the falconry display.
The event was advertised as George’s first fayre to mark the birth of the son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - who grew up in the village.
It was fitting then that the event attracted the King family who had travelled from Marlborough for a family day out.
Money raised from the event will be split between Newbury Parkinson’s, Spring Charity Fundraisers, West Berkshire Mencap and the West Berkshire Foodbank.
The event has raised more than £70,000 for local charities in the last seven years and Chapel Row Fayre secretary, Alex Haines, said that the event usually raised around £10,000 on the day.
See next week's Newbury Weekly News for a full report of the event and more pictures.
