A trip back in time at Kingsclere Primary School
As part of the school’s Remembrance commemorations, on Monday pupils dressed up in wartime clothes, before waving goodbye to their parents and carers at 9am and setting off on a coach trip to the mid-Hants railway station at Ropley.
“While at the station they were visited by a billeting officer, and learned all about war-time food, clothing and rationing,” said a school spokeswoman, adding that the trip tied in with the Year Six topic this term, A Child’s War.
Then on Tuesday, Year Six pupils attended an 11am Remembrance service at Kingsclere’s war memorial, together with teachers and parents.
Pupils returned to school to recite their own poems about war and design their own Remembrance cards before taking home Flanders red poppy seeds as a memento to commemorate the First World War centenary.
“ We hope they will plant them in their gardens and next summer the village will be full of poppies as sign of Remembrance,” added the spokeswoman.
