A339 near Kingsclere re-opens after two-vehicle collision
24-year-old male motorbike rider airlifted to hospital with serious injuries
THE A339 near Kingsclere has re-opened, after a collision involving two vehicles this morning (Thursday), following which a motorbike rider was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
The road was closed earlier today following the collision and police investigations into the incident, on the A339 at the Wolverton junction.
South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) sent an air ambulance, two ambulances and three Hazardous Area Response teams at 10.28am to the collision, involving a Renault Laguna car, and a Suzuki motorbike.
The motorbike rider, a 24-year-old man, was flown to the major trauma unit at Southampton General Hospital with multiple, serious injuries.
The car driver, a 78-year-old woman, was taken by road to the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, with non-serious injuries.
The air ambulance landed in the grounds of Sandford Springs Golf Club, (pictured), off the A339, just outside Kingsclere.
The golf club's general manager, Tom Moran, said the air ambulance landed on the fairway of the 12th hole, beside the A339 and without advance notification:
“The golfers on the course at the time, were somewhat surprised to see a helicopter approaching overhead and land on the golf course but we are just glad we could help in some little way, as we fully understand the important and brilliant job that the air ambulance do," said Mr Moran.
"All of us here at Sandford Springs just wish all those injured a full and speedy recovery”
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) sent two fire engines to the scene at 10.32am, including one from Kingsclere and another from Basingstoke.
Firefighters provided initial First Aid and assisted at the scene, before departing at 11.30am.
Initially, the first ambulance at the scene was transporting a patient to the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, and stopped to provide assistance until the crews dispatched to the scene arrived.
Police were called to the scene at 10.39am and have appealed for information about the collision.
