A339 overturned lorry petition "gaining momentum"

The call for Hampshire county council to consider traffic calming measures such as speed cameras and traffic lights was in response to an accident on the road near the Ashford Hill junction in which a Boots articulated lorry overturned on September 26.
Although no one was injured the road was closed for hours while fire crews cleared up a fuel spill and made the area safe.
Speaking of the petition Greenham parish councillor Pragna Hay said earlier this month: “The petition is gaining momentum now after a small leaflet drop."
On reaching more than fifty signatories she said: “Thank you to all those who have already signed this petition. Having a united voice will hopefully make a difference and make our village a safer place.
“There is some progress in that Basingstoke and Dean Borough Council have written to me regarding the overgrowth on the footpaths and hopefully they will be dealing with these very soon.
“Some victory so far, let’s keep the pace up.”
There have been fifteen reported accidents involving injuries on that stretch of road in the last five years, three of them serious according to police.
Responding to the call for traffic calming measures Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: “We have received correspondence regarding safety concerns on the A339 at Headley as a result of the recent overturned lorry.
“We are currently liaising with Hampshire Police over the circumstances of this incident, once this is established we will be able to determine if any highway changes are required.
“There are currently no plans to change the infrastructure as speed limits on the A339 were recently assessed as part of a systematic and in depth review of speed restrictions on all A & B category routes under the jurisdiction of the County Council. The comprehensive assessment took injury accident rates into account but determined that no alterations were needed along this stretch.”
