A339 reopens in Newbury after closure

The A339 between the Burger King roundabout and the retail park was closed this morning due to what was believed to be a fear for welfare incident.

Thames Valley Police announced the closure at around 8.10am, but the road has now reopened after being resolved with no one harmed.

A spokesperson said: "We were called to the A339 at around 6.40am this morning to reports of a fear for welfare.

"A road closure was put in place.

"This has now been resolved safely and the road has now re-opened."

The move added to the traffic chaos around the town this morning, as the morning rush hour traffic from the south area was diverted via Greenham Road and Newtown Road.

There are also reports on Google that there has been a crash on Greenham Road.

Kings Road between Boundary Road and Hectors Way remains closed as workers connect the new housing development to the utility services, forcing traffic down Boundary Road across the railway bridge.
