A339 traffic snarl up Newbury/Basingstoke set to continue until Thursday

Road surface repairs ongoing following burst main

MISERY for drivers on the A339 between Newbury and Basingstoke is still set to continue until Thursday, due to ongoing repairs, following a burst main near Headley village on Friday (Oct 2).

Thames Water have confirmed the burst main, at the Thornford Road roundabout junction with the A339, was repaired by Monday morning (Oct 5).

However repairs to the road surface have been held up due to this week's rain.

Thames Water have issued the following statement:

“We’re sorry for the traffic disruption. Our engineers arrived soon after the burst on Friday afternoon and we worked 24 hours a day until Monday morning - it was a complicated repair, but we were able to fix the pipe and get water running back through it by 10pm on Saturday night.

“The wet weather has delayed the repair of the road, but we still hope to finish the work so the road is back to normal for Thursday morning.”

Traffic has this week been reported queuing from the Swan roundabout to the Thornford Road roundabout in Headley, with delays of around 30 minutes.

Drivers were advised to seek an alternative route.
