A34 closed in both directions after 'very serious' incident
One young male has been flown by Air ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with a head injury.
A female has also been taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, by land ambulance.
Another female, believed to be elderly, has been taken to Southampton General Hospital with a possible pelvic or back injury.
An adult male, also believed to be elderly, was taken to Southampton general with a back injury.
There were three ambulances, an ambulance officer, a BASICS doctor a hazardous area response team and an air ambulance in attendance, while Hampshire Police are also on the scene.
Police say that the road is likely to be closed for "some considerable time".
Southbound traffic is being taken off at junction with A343.
Northbound traffic is coming off at Bullington Cross junction.
Traffic already on the A34 northbound and stuck in queues is being diverted onto the old A34 at Burghclere.
Officers are asking for people's patience and understanding whilst they work with emergency service partners on what they describe as a "very serious incident".
A spokeswoman for the South Central Ambulance Service, Catherine Morrow confirmed they were called at 15.38 to reports of a RTC on the A34 southbound at Burghclere.
One pump from Newbury fire station is also in attendance.
There have been reports on social media that up to a dozen emergency service vehicles are at the scene.
