A34 likely to remain closed for most of the day (Tues) following serious collision





The closure follows a serious collision on that stretch of the road at around 4.30am, involving a lorry and one other vehicle.
A spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police, Rhianne Pope, said recovery work was underway.
At 10.50am, a spokeswoman for the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) said that five patients were treated, three of which suffered minor injuries.
One patient suffered facial injuries and another chest and arm injuries. The severity of these injuries has not yet been confirmed.
Mrs Archer said that four ambulance crews and one ambulance officer were sent to the incident at 4.27am and all patients were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
At 11.15am, a spokesman for the Highways Agency, Andrew Broughton, said motorists were experiencing delays to their journeys of around three hours.
Rush-hour motorists travelling from the West Berkshire to north Hampshire areas on the A339 also experienced delays this morning due to an accident at Kingsclere, close to Pitt Hall Farm.
Ten firefighters from Basingstoke and Kingsclere Fire Stations and one manager attended and released one female from the car involved.
Fire crews from Newbury also attended a car fire in the carpark in Bayer offices, Strawberry Hill, Newbury.
Red watch crew manager Mike Wilson said they were alerted to the incident at 7.55am and that one firefighter extinguished the fire wearing breathing aparatus and used a hosereel.
