A34 multi vehicle collision




FIREFIGHTERS from Newbury Fire Station are currently at a collision on the A34 between Chieveley and East Ilsley, believed to involve two heavy goods vehicles and a car.
According to Mark Jones, the manager of Green Watch at Tilehurst Fire Station - a crew sent to provide cover at Newbury Fire Station - fire crews were called at 6.41am to this incident.

UPDATE 9.20am.
According to Thames Valley Police, the collision on the northbound carriageway of the A34, between junction 13 of the M4(Chieveley/Newbury) and A4185 (Chilton) involves two lorries and a car - a blue VW Golf, a mile-and-a-half north of Chieveley.
A passenger in one of the lorries sustained leg injuries and was to be airlifted to the John Radcliffe hospital, Oxford.
Drivers are experiencing extensive delays due to the collision, with a tailback of over a mile and diversions in place.
Work is underway to clear the road and remove the vehicles.
Police were called at 6.35am to this incident.
UPDATE 10.20AM
According to South Central Ambulance Service, one person was air lifted to the John Radcliffe hospital, Oxford, with multiple lower limb fractures, described as serious injuries. A second person was taken by ambulance to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, also with serious injuries.

UPDATE 1PM
Thames Valley Police have confirmed the A34 has been fully reopened and traffic is flowing smoothly.
It was reopened at approximately 11.20am and all emergency services have now left the scene.
