A34 overnight repair work approved
A PROGRAMME of road repairs to improve safety on the A34 near West Ilsley has been given the go-ahead by the Government. The Secretary of State for Transport, Justine Greening, has granted the Highways Agency permission to introduce overnight restrictions along the road for the next 12 months, totalling approximately 30 nights over the period (non-consecutive).
The work would include carriageway repairs, road marking, cats eyes, kerbing and gully work, and vegetation clearance, and would be carried out periodically, overnight, between 10pm and 6am.
An overnight temporary mandatory 40mph speed restriction on lengths of both carriageways of the A34 between the roundabout at its junction with the M40 at Junction 9 and West Ilsley Interchange would be imposed.
At certain stages of the work, an overnight temporary mandatory 10mph speed restriction would be in place on lengths of the road while traffic would be escorted through the works area by a convoy system.
There would be no more than two sets of 4,000m of restrictions at any one time.
The Transport Secretary’s order will come into force from Monday, April 16, and is valid for one year.
