A34 re-opens at Chieveley while power cuts affect Newbury area




Thames Valley Police have said that the A34 is now completely open following this morning's incident.They add that no one has been injured.
Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Connie Primmer said that both police and fire services were at the scene.
All motorists are being urged to avoid the area completely and those stranded in tailbacks are being told to stay away from the central reservation.
A diversion was in place for motorists to divert from the A34 southbound along the A339 through Newbury and westbound along the A4 to rejoin the A34.
It has not yet been confirmed how the power cables were damaged or caused to fall.

A power cut is also affecting the Newbury area, including Bagnor village.

The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed three fire engines, including one from Newbury and two from Oxfordshire, were sent to the scene at 9.03am .
