A34 re-opens following earlier accident
A southbound stretch of the A34 was closed earlier at the Beedon slip road after a collision between two lorries
THE A34 has fully re-opened following the closure earlier today (Thursday).
A southbound stretch of the A34 was closed for part of the morning following an earlier road traffic accident between two lorries shortly after 6am.
The accident happened on the southbound carriageway between East Ilsley and Chieveley, causing grain that was being transported in one of the lorries to disperse across the carriageway, which in turn caused long tailbacks for motorists on the southbound carriageway, north of East Ilsley (as seen above).
Emergency services were called to the scene and one lane was closed while the lorries were being recovered.
A full closure of the southbound A34 was then brought in at the Beedon slip road at about 9.30am, to allow the Highways Agency to clear the grain from the road.
However, Thames Valley Police said the closure was lifted shortly after 12 noon.
