A34 remained closed until 3am say police
.
The road was closed following a serious collision between two lorries on the northbound carriageway of the A34, close to junction 13 on the M4, shortly before 10:30am yesterday (Tuesday) morning.
One driver was airlifted to John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford with head, chest and leg injuries, Thames Valley Police confirmed.
A spokesman from South Central Ambulance Service, James Keating-Wilkes, said: "Two others were taken by land ambulance to John Radcliffe hospital as a precaution on account of possible spinal injury."
A spokeswoman from the Highways Agency, Jessica Brown, confimed that the road remained closed until 3:07am, adding that part of the road had to be resurfaced due to a diesel spill and that "tailbacks did not exceed one and a half miles and were moving constantly."
All through traffic was diverted to use the Chieveley roundabout.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police, Adam Fisher told Newburytoday.co.uk at 11.45am yesterday (Tuesday): “At this stage it appears that the driver of one of the lorries had a medical episode and as he slowed down was involved in a collision with the second lorry.
“There’s one person trapped in the second lorry, possibly two.”
