A34 in Berkshire closed in both directions between the A4185 near Chilton and the M4 J13 due to a serious collision




There has been a road traffic collision on the A34 northbound between the M4 and the junction with the A4185 and the road is closed in both directions.

Highways England has reported that emergency services, including Thames Valley Police and the South Central Ambulance Service, are in attendance following a serious collision on the A34.

The event is expected to clear between 6pm and 6.15pm.

Normal traffic conditions are expected between by 10pm.

TVP said in a Tweet the road is expected to be closed for several hours and drivers are advised to avoid the area

Diversion routes are in place:

Southbound diverted traffic should follow the solid black triangle diversion symbol:

  • From the A34 southbound, leave at the Milton Interchange off-slip
  • At the roundabout, use the third exit and join the A4130 Wantage Road
  • Continue for 2 miles until the roundabout at Rowstock
  • Take the third exit at the roundabout onto the A417
  • On approaching Wantage, cross straight over the mini roundabout
  • Immediately after the pelican crossing, take the first exit at the roundabout
  • At the next set of traffic lights (junction with Newbury Street and Ormond Road), turn left onto the A338
  • After approximately 8 miles, follow the A338 through Great Shefford
  • After 3 miles, take the first exit at the roundabout onto the M4 J14 eastbound entry slip road
  • Follow the M4 eastbound until J13 and then use the exit slip to re-join the A34 southbound

7pm UPDATE: One lane is now open northbound. The southbound carriageway remains shut

9am, August 25 UPDATE: The A34 is now open again in both directions.
