Aldermaston A340 road closure for highway improvements to cause huge diversion

Road closures in Aldermaston and Hampstead Norreys will cause significant detours throughout next week.

Both closures will take place at the same times and divert traffic to the A4. The closures are to allow Volker Highways to carry out highway improvements on behalf of West Berkshire Council — with the longest diversion route lasting an hour.

But both works are expected to be completed in one day – although the permits cover all five days to account for weather conditions.

Newbury Road/Newbury Hill in Hampstead Norreys will be closed for around one day at some time from June 5 to 9 between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

The closure will affect its junctions with the unnamed road from Ilsley Road to Newbury Hill and the unnamed Road from the B4009 Four Elms to Worlds End — with the recommended diversion expected to last an hour.

The diversion route goes to Aldworth, Streatley, Pangbourne, follows the A4 past Theale to Newbury, up the B4009 to Hermitage, and vice versa.

And the A340 Aldermaston Road will also be closed from June 5 to June 9 between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day.

The closure will affect its junctions with the B3051 roundabout to the junction of Burghfield Road on the triangle, causing a 35 minute diversion.

The suggested diversion route is up to Aldermaston Wharf, follow the A4 past Fords Farm, turn right and follow Burghfield Road, Amners Farm Road, Burnthouse Lane, Riders Lane, Palmer’s Lane, Goring Lane, Reading Road, and vice versa.

Both diversions will be signed on-site.
