A4 roadworks likely to bring delays

Roadworks on A4 between Newbury and Thatcham are to construct £40,000 pedestrian crossing

Motorists are likely to experience considerable delays due to roadworks near Tesco, on the A4 between Newbury and Thatcham for the rest of this week.

The roadworks which started on Monday (November 21) are due to the construction of a signal controlled, Puffin pedestrian crossing, funded by £40,000 of developers' contributions.

Temporary traffic lights will remain in place for the rest of this week, between 9.30am and 3.30pm, restricting traffic flows to one lane.

The work is set to last five weeks, but council spokeswoman, Peta Stoddart-Crompton, confirmed, for the following four weeks, traffic flows should improve:

“The following four weeks work will be mainly on footway so won't restrict the traffic,” she said.
