Reading Magistrates' Court: Absolute discharge for Hungerford woman

A WOMAN who admitted a public order act offence has walked from court without punishment.

In the dock at Reading Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, January 10, was Marjorie Burgess.

The 52-year-old, of Kennedy Meadow, Hungerford, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour with intent to cause Darren Grant harassment, alarm or distress, in Hungerford on July 24 last year.

But after hearing the mitigation put forward by her solicitor, Robert Jaques, magistrates ruled that an absolute discharge was the right course of action.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service, an absolute discharge means no further action is taken, since either the offence was very minor, or the court considers that the experience of being prosecuted has been enough of a deterrent.
