Accident causes tailbacks on A339 in Newbury this morning

UPDATE: The road is now clear

THERE are delays and heavy traffic on the A339 this morning, Tuesday. Emergency vehicles are currently at the scene of an incident.

A traffic accident reportedly happened some time after 7am between the The Swan Inn roundabout and the Greenham Business Park roundabout causing tailbacks as far as the Burger King restaurant near the town centre.

Contrary to earlier reports, the northbound route has also been affected.

One reader told Newburytoday.co.uk: "My daughter had been travelling from Basingstoke since 7.20am and at 9am had still not reached the accident site. "She turned around once notified that the road was closed and managed to reach Newbury via Thatcham and the A4."
