Adoption waiting times shortest in the country at 13.3 months

The statistics from the Department for Education showed that nationally, children face an average 636-day wait, equivalent to almost 21 months, between entering care and moving in with an adoptive family.
However, for children in care in West Berkshire the wait is, on average, 405 days, equivalent to 13.3 months.
The Government target for the time between a child being taken into care and the official adoption process is 21 months (639 days).
West Berkshire Council spokesman Keith Ulyatt said: “Any successes we have in adoption would be a result of a number of factors.
“We actively recruit adopters, and run training programmes for them, hold regular information evenings for those wanting to find out more about adoption, and extensively promote adoption.
“That said, we are conscious there are always more children out there who could benefit from adoption, so we will continue to work hard to offer the best support we can.”
The figures also showed that in some areas of the country, young people could face a wait of up to almost three years.
The west London borough of Kensington and Chelsea had the longest waiting time, with children in care for an average 1,082 days, equivalent to 35.5 months.
