Weather warning for ice issued by Met Office after snow falls in Newbury

After the first snow of winter came down across the district today (Tuesday) a weather warning for ice has now been issued.

The Met Office has said the yellow warning will be in place across West Berkshire and North Hampshire from 5pm today until 10am tomorrow (Wednesday).

It said that as the rain, sleet and snow we’ve all seen today moves away, it will leave clear skies overnight.

The warning added: “Temperatures are expected to fall below or close to freezing quite widely across the warning area with icy patches forming on untreated freezing surfaces.”

It advised people to allow extra time for their journeys this evening so they did not need to rush, risking slips and falls.

“If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery,” the Met Office advised. “Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.”
