Tadley Air Cadet veterans recognised for years of service to squadron
Four Air Cadet veterans have been recognised for the several years of service they have given to their squadron.
The 2403 (Aldermaston) Squadron, which is based in Tadley, ran a quiz night on Friday, June 23, at Heath End Village Hall.
On the night, four squadron veterans were given good citizen awards by Tadley Town Council.
They were nominated for the accolades by their colleagues for “the tremendous contribution made by local volunteers who support the many young people who have benefited from their time at the squadron”.
The awards were presented by Tadley town councillor Tony Flahive to two staff members and two trustees, who between them have given 158 years of service to the squadron.
Flight lieutenant Penny Palmer received an award for her 40 years of service. She was the squadron’s commanding officer from 1994 until she stood down in 2022.
Her husband, warrant officer Jim Palmer, was also presented with an award for the 29 years he has given to the squadron.
Two trustees, Keith Searle and Pete Reynolds, were recognised for their 46 and 43 years of service respectively.
More than £500 was raised over the course of the quiz evening, with 21 teams of Tadley residents and squadron members taking part.
The money will be used to buy new equipment and fund projects and activities. Commanding officer flight lieutenant Richard Williams showed his appreciation and thanks at the end of the successful annual event.
