Alcohol awareness events in Newbury

As part of National Alcohol Awareness Week, Thames Valley Police will be holding an event for students at Newbury College between 11.30am and 2pm today (Monday).
The public can then try on beer goggles, test their reactions and learn about drinks measures over a free non-alcoholic cocktail in the Kennet Centre between 11.30am and 2pm on Thursday, November 21.
Neighbourhood inspector for West Berkshire, John Donachy, said: "Around one in four adults drink more than the NHS recommended limits, with alcohol a major factor in around half of all violent crime incidents.
"This is why raising awareness of the harmful effects of excessive drinking is really important in West Berkshire and the local neighbourhood police teams are working together with partners to raise awareness of the harmful effect of excessive alcohol consumption to rectify this problem."
Police are working with West Berkshire Council and substance misuse groups The Edge and Turning Point to raise awareness of the impact of drinking too much alcohol.
